Navy officer sword, 1837 model. Blade signed Coulaux & Cie in Klingenthal - Without sheath. France, late 19th century. Blade length: 66.5 cm. Navy senior officer’s sword, from the French 3rd Republic period. Entirely chiselled and gilded brass frame (original gilding in excellent condition), foliage and scallops friezes. Key-shaped guard engraved with openwork, with the roped anchor, surrounded by foliage (engraving of one side of the guard). Black horn grip in excellent condition. Powerful blade (66.5 cm), engraved on the back: ‘ Coulaux et Cie à Klingenthal’, with a grey patina with shallow black oxidation spots, ending in a ‘carp’s tongue’ style sword.
