The Tikar people live in the western part of central Cameroon, along the Mbam, in the ‘Tikar Plain’ which is named after its current occupants.
The current limits of this ethnic group and of the Tikar country are the Bamum of the west (Foumban), the Mambila of the northwest, the Foulbé of the south and the Babouté from the southeast.
They are also commonly named the Pygmies.
They are nowadays used as a figure or symbol of fecundity for women wanting to gie birth.
Even nowadays, a similar figurine is offered to a future mother...
