The Baureihe 03.10 was a faster version of the Baureihe 03 and was built as from 1939. The locomotive had 3 cylinders. Initially, the intention was to build 140 of these locomotives, but due to WW 2 only 60 were built. The Baureihe 03.10 was equipped with streamlined features, which significantly reduced the wind resistance. However, these streamlined fittings were removed after the war, as the speed on all routes was reduced due to the extensive damage to the rail systems sustained during the war. The streamlining fittings thus added no value and were therefore removed. The locomotives of the Baureihe 03.10 that had remained in Poland and Russia, retained their streamlined fittings.
After the 2nd World War, the number of the units of the Baureihe 03.10 was as follows: • 26 units in service with the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) • 19 pieces in service with the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) • 9 units left behind in Poland and were thus in service with the Polskie Koleje Państwowe (PKP). (These were classified as Baureihe Pm 3) • 1 unit was decommissioned due to war damage • 3 pieces were left behind in Russia and were assigned to the RZD.
