Caesens & Laigneil - Kortrijk - Figurine(s), Old couple & man with jacket - Earthenware

Marvellous nostalgic figures, depicting an old couple and a man wearing a coat. Made of multicoloured Flemish pottery, pure artisanship and handmade using the old techniques. These figures are typical of the rich tradition of ‘Poterie Flamande’ and Torhout pottery and were made in Atelier Caessens (1908 – 1937) and in Atelier Laigneil (1870-1950) in Courtrai ca. 1900-1915. Made in a mould and hand painted with oxide-based colours and finished with lead glaze. The use of clay is a centuries old heritage in many cultures. Also Flemish pottery is an old tradition going back to the Middle Ages. Initially household utensils were made of the local clay and covered with lead glaze. At Caesens & Laigneil, street musicians, lace makers, figurative sculptures, local folk and the famous wedding procession were made. Hundreds of different vases and pottery figures were sold, both domestically and internationally. A great example of typical Flemish pottery. These figurines don’t only have a decorative value, they are also a valuable collection object. They have signs of use, see photos. Dimensions: Couple: 18 x 12.5 x 6.5 cm. It weighs 741 grams. Man with coat: 16.5 x 6.5 x 6 cm. It weighs 284 grams. Please take a close look at the photos for a good impression. These are part of the description.
