Art. krupp Berndorf - vegetable dish - silver nickel silver
Vegetable plate, candy plate, ART. KRUPP BERNDORF. Perfect. The famous metalware manufacturer Berndorf (in German Berndorfer Metallwaarenfabrik) was founded in 1843 in the small village of Berndorf, located in the Lower Austria region (Niederösterreich) of the Austrian-Hungarian empire.
According to the hallmark it seems to date back to 1933-1935, given the bear profile, in that period
the so-called "chicken-foot bear" was in use. Quite rare.
Arthur Krupp managed the company until his death in 1938, that coincided with the annexation of Austria by the Nazis (the so-called "Anschluss"). The German company Friedrich Krupp A, G., Essen, took a majority stake in "Berndorf Metalware Factory Arthur Krupp A. G." and maintained it until the end of World War II. After the war, BMF was confiscated by the allied occupation forces (as a German weaponry company) and stayed under Soviet administration between 1945 and 1955. After 1955 it was nationalised and became a public Austrian company.
