Antique Rare bronze mortar and pestle - with inscription 'Jacques Serke Heft my chegoten A* 1576' - Netherlands. This is a pretty heavy bronze item (ca. 2kg) complete with pestle, probably mid or end of the 19th century. The mortar says 'Jacques Serke Heft My Chegoten A* 1576' which means "Jacques Serke has cast me in the year 1576". Jacques Serke made some old bells and mortars; the Hemony Bells (of the Hemony Brothers 1609-1680) where probably inspired of the designs of Serke Height : 11,5cm diameter top 10,5 cm diameter base 7cm.
