A superb rendition by Friedrich Goldscheider, this bust, a true work of art of striking realism, comes from the great "Orientalist" movement specific to this period. The statuette is in excellent condition, except for two minor chips at the corners of the base (see photos). Size: 33 cm high; 20 cm wide (shoulder to shoulder), 12 cm deep. Unquestionably, the great figure of Art Nouveau ceramics in Austria was Friedrich Goldscheider. Born in Pilsen, Bohemia in 1845, he founded the Goldscheider manufactory in Vienna in 1885 and opened branches in Paris, Florence and Leipzig. He quickly rose to the top of the European ceramics industry, producing a very varied range of ceramics of an excellent technical and artistic quality. Great artists such as Chiparus, Bosse or Lorenzi worked with the manufacturer. But his reputation was mainly built on his polychrome orientalist terracotta sculptures, and Friedrich soon exhibited throughout Europe...
