Wonderful terracotta sculpture depicting the Horse Bayard with The Four Sons of Aymon by Jos de Decker (1912-2000). Designed for the occasion of the Ros Beiaard of Dendermonde in 1952, a ten-yearly event. ‘Dendermonde’ in relief on the front and fully signed ‘Jos De Decker’ on the rear. His works of art can be fund in numerous international auctions, usually with women, children or horses. Jos De Decker is born in 1912 in Dendermonde. He studies at the Dendermondse Academie voor Schone Kunsten as of 1928, where he follows classes by Alfred Courtens. And he continues at the Brussels Academy at Egide Rombaux. He becomes a teacher at the Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Dendermonde after WW II, and succeeds his previous teacher Alfred Courtens in 1952 as sculpting professor. He ultimately becomes director of the institution from 1970 through 1977.
