Arne Jacobsen - Fritz Hansen - Office chair (1) - 3272 Oxford classic hair

The Fritz Hansen 3272 Oxford classic chair: a seemingly simple design becomes the epitome of modern elegance in the hands of Arne Jacobsen. The upholstery is made of black velour fabric. The original version of the Oxford chair was designed by the professors at the St. Catherine's College in Oxford in 1963. When the Dean of St. Catherine's College chose Arne Jacobsen to build an extension for the college, he was also commissioned to design a series of furniture for the college. The extra long back of the chair served as a symbol of prestige and created a personal space. The "professor's chair" later evolved into the Oxford series. Despite initial protests and commotion about commissioning a foreign modernist, Arne Jacobsen received a honorary degree from Oxford after completing the project. This groundbreaking example of total design is nowadays considered to be Arne Jacobsen's most striking work.
