Vietnamese lacquer paintings (2) - lacquered wood - Vietnam - Late 20th century
Vietnamese lacquer paintings are made using an age-old process. A painting is made on a plank of wood, and through frequent sanding and varnishing (as much as 25x) a glassy surface is created. Certain parts of the painting are inlaid with mother of pearl, shells, gold and silver foil, or eggshells. The pieces are made very small and placed one by one. Turning the plank into a lacquer painting may take months.
These two lacquer paintings have depictions of women. The black painting has an inlaid hat, and the other one has an inlaid carriage hood and wheels.
The dimensions of each painting are 40 x 30 cm.
The paintings will be shipped well-packaged and insured.
