Mauser C96 pistool
The legendary C96 pistol (C96-Construction 1896) was patented by Mauser in 1896. The gun's most famous nickname is "Broomhandle".
Production ran from 1897 to 1937 and total production is estimated at over 1 million. Mauser hoped to sell his C96 pistol to the German army. That failed, but he delivered it to the armed forces of many countries, such as Finland, France, Italy, Norway, Austria, Persia, Siam, and Turkey. The Mauser C-96 pistol has also been used by Winston Churchill.
In 1920 Russia bought large quantities of the C96 with a short 99 mm barrel in caliber 7.63 mm Mauser. This type is known as the Bolshevik or “Bolo Mauser”.
The weapon is manufactured in different calibres: 7.63mm Mauser, 7.65mm Para, 8.15mm, 9mm Mauser, 9mm Para (with a large red 9 engraved in the grip), 9mm Largo (Spanish) and .45 ACP (Chinese model).
The Mauser offered is the M30 version in the original caliber 7.63 mm Mauser.
It was deactivated in October 2020. The valve, hammer, trigger and safety catch are fully functional and the gun can be cocked. The magazine and magazine plate are fixed. In 1995, the pistol was converted in Germany to the then free caliber 4 mm-M20. This can still be seen from the BKA stamp on the left side of the case: 203M. It is special that three Japanese or Chinese characters appear on the left side of the cabinet, on the magazine house. The history of this has not yet been determined, but the gun may have been part of a Chinese contract.
Mauser C-96 pistols adapted to attach a wooden butt butt, which doubles as a holster, are very rare. With the butt butt, the gun is suitable for long-range shooting. Particularly interesting is that the ladder sight does not indicate the usual 450 or 700 meters but extends up to 1000 meters.
The Mauser C96 pistol is one of the most sophisticated semi-automatic pistols in history. It was large, heavy and slow to reload, but also provided long effective firing range and firepower, coupled with high reliability. From a historical point of view, it is a rare classic.
