Impressive, large and heavy OBA Head, of a Benin king, the size is larger than life, in bronze, from equatorial Africa. The King OBA presents very characteristic Benin features on the face. It dates back to the second half of the 20th century. Magnificent Head of the Benin Empire. Bronzes from this region are among the most famous ones of Africa. In fact, Benin sculptors mastered the cire perdue (lost wax) technique very early, and harnessed these for the representation of kings, queens and high dignitaries. These bronze pieces were exclusively intended for the use of the Royal Court, therefore, the latter were only exhibited in the royal palace and in its auxiliary buildings.
