Old Regency-style chess pieces of turned wood, probably from the beginning of the last century. Boxwood or fruit wood (black pieces of ebonised wood). The King measures approximately 10 cm The "Regency" chess style takes its name from the Café de la Regency, one of the first cafés in Paris. Around 1740, the café became an address for Parisian chess players. The regulars at the café were celebrities like Diderot, Rousseau, Philidor, Napoleon Bonaparte or Benjamin Franklin.
