Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985),”Duo” model for Christofle, 1957. 8 table knives and 6 dessert knives. The knives are in good condition, used very little, minimal signs of wear. Tapio Veli Ilmari Wirkkala (born 2 June 1915 in Hanko - died 19 May 1985 in Helsinki) was a Finnish designer and sculptor and a leading figure in post-war design. He studied sculpture at the University of Industrial Design in Helsinki from 1933 to 1936. He designed the Finnish banknotes introduced in 1955 and the Finlandia vodka bottle (1970-2000). The glass containers designed for Iittala are particularly well known. The Ultima Thule series of glasses is probably the most popular.
