The development of the activities of the Brewery of Orval keeps pace with what is going on in the monks community. Part of the proceeds from the sale of products go to good works.
On the label is a trout with a gold ring in its mouth. The label is the illustration of the legend about the foundation of the Abbey of Orval. Countess Mathilde of Tuscany, widow of the Duke of Lower Lorraine, had accidentally dropped her wedding ring in the valley's source. She begged God for help, and it wasn't long before a trout came up with the precious ring in its mouth. Mathilde then exclaimed "This is truly a golden valley!" (Orval, "val d'or" means "golden valley") and she decided to establish a monastery in this blessed place out of gratitude.
