Austrian repeating commode clock with automaton: angel hammering while striking - NO RESERVE PRICE - Gilt bronze (ormolu), brass, gilt and ebonised wood - Empire period, 1810-1820
An elegant, top quality Austrian empire-period repeating mantel clock with automaton, dated to 1810-1820. Very rare object of museal quality!
Open dial with white enamel chapter ring, black Arabic numerals, in center an angel hammering while clock strikes. Good quality Viennese two train movement with silk suspension, mounted in ebonized wood case surmounted with a bronze eagle. Lower part arched, with visible decorational swinging pendulum. Four gilt wood lion paws on flat wooden base supported on four brass legs. Case decorated with gilt brass appliques.
Clock in excellent condition. Minimal wear and signs of age. Case in very good condition, restored few years ago. Movement recently overhauled by clockmaster, moves and strikes. Automaton works. The dial in good condition. We suggest clockmaster's setting after delivery. As movement is over 200 years old, we don't guarantee accuracy. Clock comes with an original pendulum and winding key.
