In November 1998, the Symington family proposed Bruno Prats to participate in a new project, which consisted of producing a great unfortified wine in the Douro. Its realization took place in 1999, with the creation of PRATS & SYMINGTON Limitada as an equal partnership between the two families. Some experimental vinifications in that first year made it possible to define and choose the best plots and the most suitable grape varieties for the project. CHRYSEIA 2000 was the first vintage to be commercialized.
CHRYSEIA was one of the pioneers of the now widely recognized resurgence of unfortified DOURO DOC wines. However, this wine, whose name means “d’ouro” in classical Greek, like the name of the river in Portuguese, remains true to its own style. Elegance and balance predominate in it, having depth without being heavy and presenting itself full-bodied without being aggressive.
