Bruno Uhl", the founder of "Photokina", the famous photo fair in Germany, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Uhl. All this is documentated on a vintage sticker from 1955 on the first blank page with the original signature by Berning (see pictures). Outside very fresh with marginal trace of use only, so with no bumps and with no spine problems (often broken or restored). Very strong binding. Overall very fine condition of this very sensitive book title. Very beautiful, big format photobook - here as sought-after "Association copy" and in brilliant fresh condition. The french edition was published same time like the first american (The Europeans, Simon and Schuster, New York). Both identical concerning content, size and content, but the french edition with no booklet and with no jacket. Both editions were conceived and composed by Teriade with the collaboration of Marguerite Lang. The engraving and printing is the work of the masters printers Draeger Frere of Paris. It was completed the 1st August 1955. "Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) was a French photographer. One of the leading contemporary photographers, he had a great role in the recognition of photography as an art form. He was an specialist in what would be called humanist photography, also being an exponent of candid photography and street photography. His way of working meant to capture what he called "the decisive moment". Cartier-Bresson traveled all around the world and documented historical events, like the proclamation of the People's Republic of China in 1949. He also published several photography books.
