Middle Paleolithic Levallois striker from France- 100mm
Made of a kind of fine quartzite (chert) and found in the gravel pit of Soupir, located along the river Aisne. Along with several other quarries nearby, discoveries were made early in the 20th century. This is a beautiful and intact levallois striker, used by the Neanderthals as a spearhead or knife. There is a beautiful retouching visible on one side.
These strikers were made using the Levallois technique from a prepared core.
It is without restorations and comes from an old collection with an older numbered registration.
