Coins were widely distributed In the Roman Empire. This made them an ideal propaganda tool for Roman Emperors to present themselves and the message they wanted to communicate. They are an important symbol of power and are full of symbolism. Silver pendant enclosing an authentic ancient coin. The new sterling silver frame (marked 925) is profesionally custom-made to the coin and if desired can be removed without damaging the coin. Coin: ½ Centenionalis of Emperor Constans, Siscia mint 348-350 AD. Obverse: Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Constans right. Reverse: Phoenix, radiate, standing on rocky mound. Legend: FEL TEMP REPARATIO Diameter: ± 18,8 mm Constans I: Roman Emperor (337-350 AD), member of the Constantinian Dynasty and youngest son of Constantine the Great. After the death of Constantine the Roman Empire was divided between Constans and his two brothers. He was the last legitimate Emperor who visited Britain (343 AD). Constans fled to Hispania after general Magnentius declared himself Emperor, but was captured and killed in Helena (Gaul). FEL TEMP REPARATIO: Re-establishment of the happy times. Phoenix: symbol of renewal and rebirth. Appears on Roman coinage to symbolise Rome as the Eternal City. Good condition and detail. Wearable (new silver frame with bail).
