Mask - Barong - Bali - Indonesia
In Bali the traditional Barong dance is often performed in religious ceremonies and rituals.
The Barong mask ,considered a sacred object , is an integral part of the Barong dance and is believed to embody protective and benevolent spirits , helping to ward off evil forces.
This Barong mask , carved out of wood , was hold by the dancer at the two handles . During the dance the dancer then quickly opened and closed the mouth of the Barong to produce that typical clapping sound of the Barong charging at its enemy .
The two ears of the mask ,on both side, can be detached and put back into place .
