Ancient Roman bronze antoninianus of emperor Claudius II Gothicus. On the obverse it presents the radiate, draped and cuirassed head of Claudius facing right. The bust is encircled by the inscription IMP C CLAVDIVS AVG, identifying the emperor as 'Augustus'. The reverse presents a standing image of Providentia facing left, leaning on a column with her legs crossed. She is holding a cornucopia and a baton in her hands with a globe at her feet. The legend reads PROVIDENT AVG. Diameter: 2.0 cm Weight: 2.40 g Provenance: Ex Cambridgeshire private collection, acquired 1970s.
