Consequently, individual books featured in the books became sought after collectors' items. Short supply and high demand lead to hyper-inflation. Then and maybe even more so now. The Cost of Photobooks: A History Volume II by Andreas Schmidt is a pseudo-scientific, humorous investigation about the desire, hype and price increases of photobooks. Over the period of two weeks in September and October 2011 Schmidt researched the online prices and availability of all the books contained in the original PARR/BADGER (Vol. II) book and made a book of screenshots of books on offer then. His idea was to establish the accumulated value of all the books featured (as 1st editions) in Dollars – and the surprising grand total appears on the back page in bold - $351,784.59. Unable to find a few of the books for sale online, Schmidt chose a simple black page per missing book. "The Cost of Photobooks: A History Volume II", a book about the economic value of photobooks in 2011, has since become a collector's item itself. Chosen by Le Monde as one of the ten best photobooks published in 2011.
