Greek, Macedonian Bronze Arrowhead (No Reserve Price)
No. 81672237
No. 81672237
A finely cast Luristan bronze arrowhead. The piece features a long thin triangular blade with a prominent central midrib and a tang. The surface is covered with an attractive patination with some earth encrustations remaining. There are some chips along the edges of the blade.
Luristan bronzes come from the province of Lorestan, located in modern day Iran. Luristan weapons, such as this nice example, would have been used in everyday life but also buried together with the deceased.
Excavated items from this region often include weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Ornamental objects are also frequently found, such as pins and bracelets. Archaeological evidence suggests that the Luristan bronze objects often served ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts.
Measurements: L 14.5cm x W 2.3cm
Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
