Superb iron currency from Africa, Idoma - Nigeria. XX Century.
Currency spread along the benue river. Their shape resembles the money of the Guinzé from Liberia. The surface has brush made lines (scratches). The front part can be recognized by its characteristic undulation of the metal.
The so-called primitive iron coins appeared relatively late in African art because blacksmiths acquired control of iron only after exchanges with Westerners. However, there is a very wide diversity depending on the region.
Forged iron - Size: 81 x 36.5 x 0.5 cm / Weight: Aprox. 3 Kgs (For sale with stand).
Acquired from a Spanish private collection, R.O in the 80's.
