Ship clock - Schatz Ships Bell - Mid-20th century period
This is a high-quality, nice old brass Schatz Ships Bell ship's clock.
The brass casing especially looks attractive and has a nice deep shine.
The ship's clock strikes so-called glasses, which means:
The number of strikes is synchronised with how a crew keeps watch. On ships, duty watch is kept in a cycle of 4 hours. Before the arrival of clocks and watches, this was regulated using an hourglass. So there are eight periods of half an hour.
The clock is functioning well and has minor signs of wear.
The bell can be switched on or off on the front of the ship's clock
This clock comes with a brass winding key and instruction manual (see photos).
The clock is mounted to a hardwood lacquered plank.
