The black-glazed surface is adorned with beautifully painted white and yellow vine clusters and tendrils, elegantly placed below a register of linear and dotted bands. A skyphos, in ancient Greek pottery, is a deep, two-handled drinking cup. The Gnathian ware, to which this skyphos belongs, represents a distinctive style of ancient Greek pottery prevalent in the 4th century BC. Named after the region of Gnathia in southern Italy, this pottery is renowned for its vibrant polychrome decorations and features a black-glazed background.
