Portfolio of 6 collotypes prints
Print Size: 25.4 x 20.3cm
This is a mini-portfolio of six collotype prints of photographs by Shoji Ueda (1913-2000), one of Japan’s most highly esteemed photographers. Ueda, who lived in Tottori Prefecture, often incorporated the nearby sand dunes in his surrealist and inventive compositions of portraits and group photographs.
The photographs in the compilation “Sand Dune” were selected by Kyoto-based print manufacturer Benrido from Ueda’s eponymous series.
Collotype, one of the oldest techniques of creating photographic prints, is a pigment-based process. The technique is revered for its excellent reproducibility, the smoothness and depth of its textures and its strong durability. It is often employed for the reproduction of important cultural works. Benrido, founded in 1905 in Kyoto, is one of the most experienced collotype printing studios in the world.
