Headrest - Kaara - Ethiopia (No Reserve Price)
Headrests from the Horn of Africa were highly personal objects used daily. Today, they survive only in a few isolated regions of the continent, particularly in the area where the four borders of Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan meet.
This exquisite headrest originates from the Omo Valley and is believed to be crafted by the Kaara, Hamer, or Banna people.
The headrest boasts a distinctive saddle-shaped lintel, elegantly supported by a refined flat foot that culminates in a conical base.
Two attachments have been carved on the foot to fasten a handle, likely made of metal, which has since disappeared. The foot is lined with reclaimed rubber.
Crafted from a single piece of hardwood, this headrest showcases impeccable balance and displays a striking honey-colored patina, further enhanced by its craftsmanship.
