Michael Schmidt - Irgendwo - 2005

"That's right. I consider my brand of black and white photography to be colour photography." - Michael Schmidt - VERY SCARCE BOOK TITLE - by famous German photographer Michael Schmidt ("U-ni-ty", "Waffenruhe", Martin Parr, The Photobook, vol 2, page 65; The Open Book, Hasselblad Center, page 336/337; 802 photo books from the M.+M. Auer collection, page 673). "After Michael Schmidt's large and important publications Waffenruhe and Ein-heit his new book Irgendwo makes for a smaller appearance. The title, which could be translated as exactly the middle between the terms Somewhere and Anywhere grasps the feeling of uneasiness that could hit you like a hammer in german province towns. On the other hand this feeling of repression and secreteness drops away completely in Schmidt's portraits of the teenagers which run like a strong and sensitive counter-current through the pictures of fences, block-houses, rocks and woods. So the smaller format makes a lot of sense, the lighter book in this case carries more weight." (from the publisher) Welcome to the "GERMAN PHOTOBOOKS" auction by Ecki Heuser (5Uhr30.com, Cologne) - with more than 100 fantastic lots. IF YOU WIN MORE THAN 1 OF MY BOOKS IN THIS AUCTION, YOU WILL PAY ONLY 1 X SHIPPING COSTS - WORLDWIDE. Snoeck, Hannover 2005. First german edition, first printing. Condition: Book inside and outside excellent, fresh and flawless; clean with no marks and with no foxing. Dustjacket with neat imperfection at the top right corner of the front, spine a bit yellowed, otherwise fresh and fine. Overall fine condition. Great, scarce photobook by Michael Schmidt.
