Ottoman Empire Silver-metal Ring with Lapis Lazuli Intaglio with an Insect (No Reserve Price)
A very impressive Ottoman Empire silver-metal ring. It presents a square raised bezel with a lapis lazuli intaglio showing an insect in flight, probably a bee. The intaglio decoration served as a stamp or a seal, illustrating a protective symbol or the heraldry of the owner. The raised bezel is richly decorated on all sides with geometric patterns and the ring band is also partly decorated with a feather-like protrusion to the shoulders. Good solid condition, wearable. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.
Measurements: H 2.8cm x W 2.1cm
Inside diameter: 1.8cm
Closest UK ring size: N
Provenance: Purchased by the current owner in 2021. Prior English collection of Mr. A.H.D.
