Indus Valley Terracotta Vessel with Geometric Decoration (No Reserve Price)

An Indus Valley terracotta vessel featuring a globular body sitting on a circular flat base. To the top, the vessel raises into a short neck and opens into a large mouth with an out-splayed rim. The main register features linear bands in black and vagule visible red pigments. In the centre of the band is a row of double zig-zagging lines. The rim and neck is undecorated. A visible chip to the rim. Earthly encrustations to the surface. Some surface scratches consistent with age. The Indus Valley Civilisation extended from what today is northeast Afghanistan to Pakistan and north-west India. It was one of three early and widespread cradles of civilisation along with Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. At its peak, the Indus Valley Civilisation, which included such sites as Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, may have had a population of over five million, who developed new techniques in pottery, seal carving, and metallurgy. Measurements: Circa, Height - 15cm Diameter - 13cm Provenance: From the David Gold (deceased) collection, 1970’s.
