Rare lot of 50 eye prostheses from 1910 - 1920's; France
In mint condition in the original travel box.
The different sizes and colours are intended to adapt to patients (broken jaws) who lost their eye to shrapnel in the trenches on the battlefield at the end of the 1st World War.
Various shades of color and sizes with small blood vessels, hand painted on the conjunctivitis reproduce the iris thanks to pigments in all shades. It consists of blue, green and brown irises.
Each eye is in a true work of art; a time consuming process hand-painted by an expert.
Material: glass and porcelain; half-shell shaped.
The box is lined with luxurious velvet.
The box and eye prostheses are in a mint -as new- condition.
Provenance: private medical war collection.
This type of collections only rarely comes onto the market.
