Meteorite Campo del Cielo / Moldavite / 925 sterling silver / new - 4.68 g - (1)

Pendant Meteorite Campo del Cielo / Moldavite / new 925 Sterling Silver with leather strap (80 cm) New and unworn Campo Del Cielo meteorites are classified as coarse iron octahedrites, type IAB. This meteorite fall occured between 4000 and 6000 years ago. The first record of its discovery was in 1576 by a Spanish Captain named Miravel, although the actual fall is believed to have been witnessed by local Indians who originally named this region the "field of heaven". Moldavite (Czech: Vltavín) is an olive-green or dull greenish vitreous substance possibly formed by a meteorite impact in southern Germany (Nördlinger Ries), which would make it one kind of tektite. They were introduced to the scientific public for the first time in 1786 as “chrysolites” from Týn nad Vltavou in a lecture by professor Josef Mayer of Prague University, read at a meeting of the Bohemian Scientific Society (Mayer 1788). Zippe (1836) first used the term “moldavite” derived from the town of Moldauthein (Czech: Týn nad Vltavou) - now in Bohemia (the Czech Republic), from where the first described pieces came. Dimensions: 31,2 mm x 10,2 mm x 7,7 mm Totalweight: 4,68 g (without leather band) Authenticity guaranteed by IMCA member #0099 The item will be sent as registered priority airmail
