Two African Baule colonial figures, named colons. Hand carved wooden statues of a policeman and a military figure , These carvings from the Baule tribe date back to the time as Ivory Coast was still a French colony . It is said that the black person made fun of the white person by means of the colon- objects. These carvings portray a funny and subtile hint at the white men of taking themselves overly serious. Through the passing of time the statues show shrink cracks and chips . The policeman cannot stand on its own and needs support .
