A unique Japanese Kokeshi, acquired from a private collector situated in a remote town named Yoshinojingu in Wakayama province, Japan. This black kokeshi is not made of wood, but of a rare type of black marble called Nachi-guro (inkstone). This type of stone is only found in the Wakayama prefecture, Nachikatsuura town to be precise. It has been made by a very talented local artist, who has signed the kokeshi on the left side. Also the authenticity sticker can be found at the back side. Please take a look at the pictures to study the well balanced shape and fine carvings that make a very cute kokeshi doll! This piece of Japanese craftsmanship is estimated to be between 40 and 70 years old. It is completely free of damages and looks as new. Dimensions: 11 x 5 x 5 cm. 270 grams.
