José Alvarez Cjeca - Obra Construida. Luis Barragan - 1995

Luis Barragán could be considered, among the architects of the present century, one of those who most contributed to the enrichment of the human capacities of the individual. His great sensitivity and refi- nement in developing an autonomous architecture, without losing his place in the general context of contem- porary architecture, is highly laudable and interesting. Being a tireless searcher for the popular roots of architecture which he found mainly in Andalusia (Spain) and Morocco (more than anywhere else), the expression of these roots in his own work is like a fresh wind that brings us back our architecture from overseas, sifted through Mexican context. Barragan's work contains a complete lesson of how to make architecture today. The reception given to the exhibition and the catalogue (in its third edition now) shows the acknoweledgment to a deep reflective work full of references to previous cultures and still broadly modern, of the Mexican architect. The Council of Public Works manifests with this bilingual edition the desire to contribute to a major dissemination of Luis Barragán's figure and work within the scope of cooperation in architecture with several Latin American countries. See Pictures.
