For the purposes of this coin series, the site is the banks of the river Seine in Paris and are the buildings are located along them. One of the few gilded silver coins released by the mint, previous coins have shown fine levels of detail and well placed gilding. This new coin depicts the Orsay Museum and the Petit Palais. The former is a museum on the Seine’s left bank housed in the former Gare d’Orsay, a Beaux-Arts railway station built between 1898 and 1900, and is one of the largest art museums in the world. It holds a collection of predominantly French art from 1848 to 1914 and the largest collection of impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters including Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin and Van Gogh. The Petit Palais (Small Palace) is another art museum, one of the 14 museums of the City of Paris that were incorporated into the Paris Musées at the start of 2013. It was built for the 1900 Exposition Universelle (universal exhibition), it now houses the City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts, full of important works back as far as ancient Greek and Roman times.
