Coco de Mer or Sea Coconut Taxidermy full body mount - Lodoicea maldivica - 500 mm - 250 mm - 145 mm - CITES Appendix III – Annexe C in the EU

This awesome very big and recent specimen is very well preserved and the natural “unpolished” looking make this coco de mer very nice. Great symmetrical shape. Very rare specimen. The Coco de mer is the largest seed and one of the most wanted natural art object. This coco grows on the island of Praslin and Curieuse in the Seychelles and have a very suggestive shape. The ripe fruit is heavy (15kg to 25kg), so it cannot float on the water, it sinks instead until the flesh inside the fruit decomposes and then resurface thanks to gases inside. This is why we thought for a long time that this was the fruit of an unknown marine tree, hence the name “sea coconut”. Coco de mer are also called “coco fesse” and there are very rare now. The coco de mer permit is stuck on it as needed to bring back home recent ones from Seychelles. This specimen is sold with the wooden stand which highlights the coco de mer. Year : 2023 Size with the stand : 50x25x14,5 cm Size without the stand : 34,5x25x14,5 cm Weight without the stand : 1751 g Origin : Seychelles
