Ancient Egyptian Silver amulet of the Vulture Goddess Nekhbet - 1.6 cm
- Nekhbet, the vulture goddess was the tutelary deity of Upper Egypt. She and the cobra goddess Wadjet, who was connected with Lower Egypt, were the Two Ladies — together, they represented the united Egypt. Almost always represented as a vulture with her wings outstretched, she often frames the shen sign of eternity between her wings or grasped in her talons.
- See last picture of Nekhbet: https://smarthistory.org/egyptian-deities/
- Silver was rare in ancient Egypt, more precious than gold. Imported from western Asia, it continued to be rare, and on lists of valuables, items of silver were listed above those of gold until the New Kingdom.
