Kazakhstan. 100 Tenge 2012 Ciconia ciconia - The White Stork Proof (.925) (No Reserve Price)

The National Bank of Kazakhstan has recently issued a new silver coin dedicated to a white stork, a tall long-necked wading bird with long bare red legs and a straight pointed red bill. The White Stork is a long-distance migrant, wintering in Africa from tropical Sub-Saharan Africa to as far south as South Africa, or on the Indian subcontinent. The obverse of this oval-shaped coin represents the State Emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Below it, there are the inscriptions indicating the standard of coinage and the face value of the coin. The obverse also includes the legends denoting the name of the issuing bank in Kazakh and the issuing year. Featured on the reverse, there is the gilded image of a white stork against the background of the wetland. The legend about the European White Stork bringing babies is believed to have originated in northern Germany, perhaps because storks arrive on their breeding grounds nine months after midsummer. The reverse also contains the inscription indicating the bird’s name in Kazakh and Latin.
