Ancient Greek Very Large Red-Figure Attic Lekythos with Spanish Import Licence
An Attic red-figure large lekythos. Vessel for storing oil with slender neck, trumpet-shaped mouth, a body that broadens slightly and disc-foot. Double frieze of radiated lines on the reserved shoulder. The body of the vessel is bordered at the top by a maeander. The picture field depicts a standing, cloaked, bearded man to left holding the knotty staff, typical of Athenian citizens, in his left hand. He extends his right arm forward to leave an offering on a high altar.
A lekythos was used to store and pour precious oil, and the narrow neck and bowl‑shaped mouth helped conserve the expensive unguents.| Greece, Attic. 5th Century B.C.
The piece includes thermoluminescence test.
Dimensions: 27,00 cm.
Condition: Small orifice on the back ( see pictures ). Restored on neck and the junction between the vessel and its foot. Wear to surface, paint partially abraded.
