Chinese Archaistic style Bronze Wine Vessel - Jue
style of Circa 1600-1027 BC - Shang Dynasty or later
Crafted with a deep U-shaped body rising from three splayed legs to a pointed rim opposite a guttered spout, this bronze wine vessel exudes elegance and functionality. Adorned with taotie masks featuring bulging eyes, its exterior tells a story of ancient Chinese mythology and symbolism. A loop handle, emerging from a bovine mask, adds a touch of artistry and practicality to this exquisite piece.
The Jue is a type of ancient Chinese bronze wine vessel that dates back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties, spanning from approximately 1600 BC to 256 BC. It played a significant role in ceremonial rituals, feasts, and ancestral worship, where wine was offered as a libation to honour ancestors and communicate with the spirit world.
