This well-modelled cast-bronze axe head showcases an outswayed blade. The thick socket is adorned with a bird corpus on the back, featuring a high-held head and folded wings, with incisions imitating its plumage.
Luristan, also known as Lorestan, is a region located in western Iran, encompassing parts of the modern provinces of Lorestan, Ilam, and Kermanshah. This region has a rich archaeological heritage dating back to ancient times, particularly during the Iron Age, approximately from the 12th to the 7th centuries BC. One of the most significant achievements of Luristan was its metallurgical industry, which flourished during the Iron Age. Luristan was renowned for its skilled metalworkers who produced exquisite bronze artifacts, including weapons, tools, ornaments, and ceremonial objects. These artifacts were crafted using sophisticated casting and forging techniques, showcasing the advanced metallurgical knowledge of the Luristan people.
