Rose quartz - Lavra da Ilha, Taquaral, Minas Gerais, Brazil - Height: 10.4 cm - Width: 6.5 cm- 180 g

Watch a video of this specimen by following the Vimeo link below: https://vimeo.com/923404796 Rose quartz is a rare variety of quartz which colour is caused by natural irradiation-induced lattice distortion with point replacements of silicium by aluminium and phosphorus during the quartz crystal growth. It occurs as well-crystallized samples only in pegmatites and in a very few deposits in the world, the most famous and significant by far being the Minas Gerais pegmatite field in Brazil. Here is a fantastic rose quartz specimen from a 1977 discovery in Lavra da Ilha, Minas Gerais! It features a beautiful corolla of rose quartz elegantly enclosing the top and sides of a clear colour smoky quartz crystal. You can notice that all rose quartz crystals are syntaxially overgrowing the large clear quartz. A feature that makes this specimen special and desirable is the combination with short green-brown prisms of eosphorite (end-member of the eosphorite-childrenite series), a rare manganese aluminophosphate only found in pegmatites. Another uncommon feature is the presence of matrix feldspar, which makes for a natural-looking support, adding more context and overall balance to this specimen. A fine rose quartz combination specimen from Brazil, of the highest quality! This specimen comes with a high quality custom acrylic display base (not pictured) so it can stand perfectly in your showcase.
