Coebergh - Oud-Hollandse Marasquin - b. 1930s - 0.75 Ltr

Very old bottle with likeur based on Marascino cherries. From the company's archivist: In 1877, the firm Coebergh & De Bruyn was founded on Weenastraat in Rotterdam. In 1905, the firm moved to Ridderstraat, where it was totally destroyed during the bombing of the city in 1940. Coebergh was then relocated to Schiedam. In 1955, Coebergh's Distilleerderij NV took over Distillery P. Hoppe in partnership with Heineken, only to pass entirely into the hands of the Heineken concern itself in 1969 and 1972. In the late 1980s, Heineken's Spirits and Wine Group partnered with Bols in the Benelux. Eventually, Bols(-Wessanen) bought out Heineken in 1994. [Expert's remark: Coebergh became famous is for its Bessen, a cassis liqueur. But as many Dutch drink companies they started out with a much broader portofolio, that included jenevers and liqueurs. This is a nice historical example of their cherry liqueur and the first bottle of it I see. -ES]
