You are bidding on a very fine 4/4 master violin, labeled Camillus de Camilli fecit in Mantova 1736. The instrument remains in excellent condition with only one small repaired crack right to tailpiece, grafted scroll, new ebony set up, new Despiau bridge and new strings.
The violin has a straight medium grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of softly flamed maple with matched sides, neck and scroll. The purfling is professionally executed and the edges are masterfully done. The varnish of golden amber color remains in excellent condition. The whole length of the violin is 590 mm and the back 358 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 166 mm; middle bouts: 112 mm; lower bouts: 205 mm. The sound is very sweet, rich, warm and powerful.
