Never framed, never exposed. - Joan Miró (April 20, 1893 - December 25, 1983) was a Catalan painter who combined abstract art with Surrealist fantasy. His mature style evolved from the tension between his fanciful, poetic impulse and his vision of the harshness of modern life. He worked extensively in lithography and produced numerous murals, tapestries, and sculptures for public spaces. Miró’s art is characterized by a persistent experimentation and a lifelong flirtation with non-objectivity. His canvas represented a sandbox for his subconscious mind, out from which sprang a vigorous lust for the childlike and a manifestation of his Catalan pride. His signature pictorial signs, biomorphic forms, geometric shapes, and abstracted and semi-abstracted objects helped inform a relentlessly original oeuvre in multiple media from ceramics and engravings to large bronze installations. One of his notable works is “Mayo 1968”, a painting created between 1968 and 1973, which is now part of the permanent collection of the Fundación Joan Miró in Barcelona. This work was inspired by the student revolts in Paris in 1968, known as the French May or May '68. Miró sympathized with this movement and created this work as a wall where the vitality and ideals of those events are stamped. In terms of the valuation of his works, the prices can vary significantly. The price of a painting can range from 32,000 to 20,000,000 €, a drawing from 6,800 to 300,000 € and a sculpture from 210 to 10,000,000€.
