Icon - Hand-painted Russian icon of the Holy Mother of God "Country" - Wood

Hand-painted Russian icon of the Holy Mother of God "Country". Very good condition. Material - wood, tempera The icon appeared to the Russian Orthodox people on March 2, 1917, in the village of Kolomenskoe near Moscow, on the day of the abdication of the martyr Tsar Nicholas II from the throne. The villager Evdokia Andriyanov, who lived near the village of Kolomenskoye, heard a mysterious voice in his dream: "There is a big black icon in the village of Kolomenskoye. It should be painted red and you should pray for it.' church majestically crowned as a woman. The dream was so clear and impressive that Evdokiy decided to go to the village of Kolomenskoye to the Ascension Church. After a long search they found an old dusty icon in the basement when they dusted it off. A scepter on his knees held the infant Jesus. Later it was found that the icon was brought in 1812 from Moscow during the evacuation and then forgotten. After the persecutions, copies of the icon were scattered throughout the country, before which believers prayed for the salvation of the faith. According to some Orthodox interpretations, the symbolic meaning of the icon is that the death of the monarchy and the subsequent political events were sent to the Russian people as part of the punishment for many sins, and in particular for breaking the oath taken by the Romanov dynasty through the Zemsky Cathedral in 1613. But the Mother of God guards the symbols of state power, giving hope for repentance and revival of Russia. The akathist of the icon reads "Rejoice, for with the tears of repentance your sins will be washed away"
