On top of being the type-locality for this iconic species (historically named 'chessylite'), Chessy is a wonderful deposit for azurite: many different facies occur there and the wide variety of shape achieved by azurite specimens is an endless delight for collectors.
One of the most interesting and sought after oddities in Chessy are 'eggs' featuring azurite crystals lining shrinkage cracks inside blue nodules!
Here is a beautiful representative 'egg' displaying a core with highly lustrous royal blue azurite crystals inside a banded azurite nodule partly pseudomorphosed to malachite at its periphery.
A French and international classic!
